Brig. Gen. Mark Toy, deputy commanding general-support (DCG-S), Joint Forces Land Component Command (Forward), Hempstead, Texas, (JFLCC-FWD), shakes hands with Lance Cpl. Zachary Germany an assault amphibious mechanic assigned to Charlie Company, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve from Galveston, Texas, during a site recon in Beaumont, Texas on Sep. 4, 2017 and rewards them with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer challenge coin for their continuous efforts during the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. The Department of Defense is conducting Defense Support of Civil Authorities operations in response to the effects of Hurricane Harvey. DSCA operations are part of the DoD’s response capability to assist civilian responders in saving lives, relieving human suffering and mitigating property damage in response to a catastrophic disaster.
