    U.S. Marines Chief Warrant Officer Michael Thompson and Gunnery Sgt. Isidro Gonzales greet Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force Lt. Gen. Taura, the commanding general of the Northern Army, on Aug. 25, 2017, in Hokkaido, Japan. The Marines and members of the JGSDF conducted a series of ground and aerial exercises during Northern Viper 17. Northern Viper is a combined-joint exercise held to enhance regional cooperation between participating nations to collectively deter security threats.
