170816-N-AZ808-181 PACIFIC OCEAN (August 16, 2017) – Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanic) 3rd Class Ethan Bruce, assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Halsey (DDG 97), inspects a sample of fuel for impurities during a connected replenishment-at-sea with the dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Matthew Perry (T-AKE 9). Halsey is currently underway conducting a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group. COMPTUEX tests a carrier strike group’s mission-readiness and ability to perform as an integrated unit through simulated real-world scenarios.
