Coast Guard assists DPAA to transfer unidentified remains from Solomon Islands to Oahu [Image 5 of 7]
Members from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point prepare to render honors during a unidentified remains transfer in the Solomon Islands, Aug. 8, 2017. The remains will be brought back to Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency’s facility on Oahu for care and attempted identification. Of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II, more than 400,000 died during the war. Today more than 73,000 of those who died remain missing including 558 Coast Guardsmen.
