Rugged grassy ridges known as the Sea Horse and Galloping Horse can be seen atop of a hill known as the Gifu on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands, Aug. 6, 2017. Imperial Japanese Army soldiers commanded by Col. Akinosuka Oka named the Gifu after a prefecture in Japan. It was the Soldiers of 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, who was tasked to reduce the nearly 500 strong Japanese position backed by 40 bunkers and more than 40 heavy weapons in January 1943.
