CAMP COURTNEY, OKINAWA, Japan— Lt. Col. Pat P. Vongsavanh, left, and Tetsuya Matsumoto pose for a photo in the fire department July 31 aboard Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan. Matsumoto was one of the two firefighters and an emergency medical technician who rushed into action July 16 when a family came to them in distress. A woman was in labor and did not have time to make it to the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa aboard Camp Foster. Together the three men were able to safely deliver the baby at the fire department and transport the happy family to the USNH. Three certificates of appreciation were presented to the men who helped a mother safely deliver her baby. Vongsavanh is the executive officer of Camp Courtney and McTureous. Matsumoto is a firefighter at the Marine Corps Installations Pacific Fire Department aboard Camp Courtney.
