170727-N-KW679-0007 CARIBBEAN SEA (July 27, 2017) Mobile Diving Salvage Unit One (MDSU 1) Navy Diver 2nd Class Jonathan Cruz, stationed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, shows Honduran Marines how to use a side scan, a sonar technique that lets divers map out the ocean floor, near Base Naval de Puerto Castilla, a Honduran naval base, before a dive. MDSU 1 sailors are deployed, along with troops from several services, to conduct subject matter expert exchanges as part of Southern Partnership Station 17. SPS 17 is a U.S. Navy deployment executed by U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet, focused on subject matter expert exchanges with partner nation militaries and security forces in Central and South America.
