U.S. Army 1st Lt. David Provencher, from Ellenville, N.Y., and an infantry platoon leader with 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, from the 10th Mountain Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team, stands with Staff Sgt. John Oliver and Sgt. Daniel Stein after receiving the Silver Star Medal at a ceremony on Forward Operating Base Kunduz, in northern Afghanistan. Both Oliver and Stein assisted Provencher in saving the lives of three wounded soldiers and the recovery two others that were mortally wounded.
