This photo of 2nd Lt. Herbert H. C. Zumhingst was taken in Liberal, Kan. While he was undergoing transition training for B-24 Liberator bombers in December 1944. Zumhingst served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam as a pilot flying bombers, transport aircraft and gunships respectively. He served for more than 40 years and attained the rank of lieutenant colonel before retiring from Bakalar Air Force Base in Columbus, Ind.
