CORONADO, California (July 14, 2017) – Engineman Fireman Matthew Detig, assigned to Landing Craft Unit 1, provides line handling training prior to entering the wet well aboard USS Essex (LHD 2) during a boarding operation. LCU 1’s mission is to conduct ship to shore movements and assist amphibious ships to obtain training qualifications to meet mission readiness.
