170602-N-UJ980-323 SAN DIEGO (June 2, 2017) During a recent visit to the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC), Rear Adm. Paul D. Pearigen, commander, Navy Medicine West (NMW), tours the command’s infectious diseases freezer archive with Captain Rita Simmons, NHRC’s commanding officer. The archive, which houses nearly one million specimens, enables NHRC scientists to verify lab results with traditional culture and serological methods as well as allow the rapid validation of new diagnostic technologies. During his visit, Pearigen and NHRC personnel discussed the command’s research initiatives and capabilities in support of operational readiness and warfighter health.
