170531-N-UX013-0345 SEA OF JAPAN (May 31, 2017) Operations Specialist 3rd Class Marcus Maxwell awaits instruction during a Detect to Engage Exercise (DTE) in the Combat Information Center (CIC) of the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48). DTE tests the ship’s ability to track and engage low flying aircraft using integrated Air Surveillance and Self Defense Systems. Ashland is on a patrol in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance partnerships and be a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
