170531-N-UX013-0031 SEA OF JAPAN (May 31, 2017) Cmdr. Patrick L. German, executive officer of the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48), monitors activity during a Detect to Engage Exercise (DTE) in the ship’s Combat Information Center (CIC). DTE tests the ship’s ability to track and engage low flying aircraft using integrated Air Surveillance and Self Defense Systems. Ashland is on a patrol in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance partnerships and be a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
