Andrew Owens, a platoon commander with Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 4th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, signals the helicopter rope suspension technique (HRST) master to send another Marine down the rope during fast rope training on USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Jan. 7. HRST masters are specialists in helicopter rope suspension techniques and must be present during HRST training events.
