USS MAKIN ISLAND, Gulf of Aden (January 7, 2017) A U.S. Marine with Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 4th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, prepares to slide down a rope during helicopter rope suspension technique training aboard USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Jan. 7. Marines slid down the rope at least three times during the training, once without gear or weapons, once wearing their flak jacket and helmet, and once with flak, helmet, weapon and an assault pack.
