A U.S. Navy sailor, identifiable by the eagle rating badge on his uniform, stands on the deck of a naval vessel holding a handheld device — likely a GPS or radio — extended outward. A second crew member is visible in the background operating equipment on the ship's bridge wing. The vessel appears to be navigating coastal waters with mountainous terrain and urban structures visible in the distance.

HONG KONG (April 7, 2017) Aerographer’s Mate 2nd Class Alvin Vintayen, from San Diego, uses a handheld weather meter to read wind speed and temperature as the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) arrives in Hong Kong for a scheduled port visit. Makin Island, the flagship for the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, with the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance amphibious capability with regional partners and to serve as a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
