PACIFIC OCEAN (March 25, 2017) Gunner's Mate 3rd Class Joshua Berger, from Conroe, Texas, mans a .50-caliber machine gun aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Shoup (DDG 86) while underway for composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group in preparation for an upcoming deployment. COMPTUEX tests the mission readiness of the strike group's assets through simulated real-world scenarios and their ability to perform as an integrated unit.
