    EAST CHINA SEA (March 8, 2017) Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) sails alongside Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer JS Sazanami (DD 113) and JS Samidare (DD 106) during a flag hoisting exercise. The Carl Vinson Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment as part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of U.S. 3rd Fleet.
