U.S. Army Gen. Raymond A. Thomas III, commander, U.S. Special Operations Command and U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Patrick L. McCauley, command sergeant major, U.S. Special Operations Command, salute the colors during the National Anthem at the opening of the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship Game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., January 9th. U.S. Special Operations Command was recognized during the ceremony honoring its 30th anniversary. U.S. special operations forces are currently deployed to more than 97 countries worldwide, fulfilling geographic combatant requirements and supporting 10 named operations. USSOCOM supports a variety of missions ranging from working with indigenous forces and local governments to improve local security, to high-risk counterterrorism operations.
