A military ceremony or formal event is taking place on a stage with a blue curtain backdrop. A central figure wearing WWI-era U.S. Army uniform with a brodie helmet and olive drab tunic stands on stage holding a rifle, likely performing a historical reenactment or pageant. In the background, a U.S. Marine in dress blues stands as a color guard next to an American flag, while an audience of uniformed military personnel occupies the foreground.

Pfc. Richard Nagel represents a Marine in World War I during the annual Historic Uniform Pageant aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Nov. 4, 2016. The pageant is held to honor the Marine Corps’ birthday and features Marines wearing uniforms from all major conflicts the Marine Corps has fought in. The pageant depicts the Corps’ long illustrious history throughout decades of warfighting. The pageant also included a traditional cake-cutting ceremony representing the passing of traditions from the eldest Marine to the youngest. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
