    Senior Chief Petty Officer Eric Bednorz, lead instructor for the Advanced Helicopter Rescue School, uses a monocular device to keep an eye on the training evolution taking place in the surf zone off of Fort Stevens State Park in Warrenton, Ore., Nov. 7, 2016.

    Bednorz and his team of instructors are based out of the Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Ala., but hold four week-long AHRS classes in Astoria, Ore. every fall and spring to take advantage of the unique weather and sea conditions in the Pacific Northwest.
