This is Smith's second visit to NAS Sigonella as part of a CNIC assessment survey of the Navy's European bases. NAS Sigonella provides operational platforms ashore that enable U.S., allied, and partner nation forces to be where they are needed and when they are needed to ensure security and stability in Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia.
