POHAKOLOA TRAINING AREA, Hawaii – Marines with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, don their protective gear as they are gassed during a squad attack exercise at Range 10 aboard Pohakuloa Training Area, Hawaii, as part of Lava Viper, a staple in the battalion’s pre-deployment training, on Oct. 22, 2016. During the live-fire exercise, combat engineers supported Bravo Co., helping to clear wired obstacles and provide rear security, working to improve the lethality of the infantry battalion. Lava Viper provides the Hawaii-based Marines with an opportunity to conduct various movements, live-fire and tactical training, integrating combined arms exercises, before departing for Integrated Training Exercise aboard Marine Air-Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California, where the battalion will train and be evaluated as a whole.
