POHAKOLOA TRAINING AREA, Hawaii – Lance Cpl. Emanuel Coello, a combat engineer with Combat Engineer Platoon, Engineer Services Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 3, and a Reston, Virginia, native, provides security during an exercise at Range 10 aboard Pohakuloa Training Area, Hawaii, as part of Lava Viper, a staple in the battalion’s pre-deployment training, on Oct. 22, 2016. Combat engineers supported Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, in squad attack training exercises in which they helped to clear wired obstacles and provide rear security, working to improve the lethality of the infantry battalion. Lava Viper provides the Hawaii-based Marines with an opportunity to conduct various movements, live-fire and tactical training, integrating combined arms exercises, before departing for Integrated Training Exercise aboard Marine Air-Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California, where the battalion will train and be evaluated as a whole.
