A large naval vessel, consistent with an aircraft carrier, is viewed through a circular porthole or hawse pipe opening from another ship. The carrier is visible at a distance on open ocean under a partly cloudy sky. The framing device creates a dramatic compositional contrast between the dark foreground structure and the bright seascape beyond.
