Sergeant Major Jose l. Schneegansurroz, of the 321st Civil Affairs Brigade, briefs the activities of the CJ9 Civil Affairs section of Multinational Forces South to Lieutenant General Joseph P. DiSalvo, Military Deputy Commander, United States Southern Command, during PANAMAX 2016 at Joint Base San Antonio, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The CJ9 section consisted of soldiers from the G9 of Army South, soldiers from the 321st Civil Affairs Brigade, Marines from Force Headquarters Group (FHG), individual augmentees from the United States Air Force and Navy, civilian linguists, and sailors and soldiers from Belize, Chile, Columbia, and Peru.
PANAMAX 2016 is a Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff approved, Southern Command sponsored, multi-national regional exercise. Nineteen nations from within and outside the area of operations participated. The focus of PANAMAX is to provide a regional approach to maintaining and securing free and open access to the Panama Canal. The exercise was conducted 24 July – 06 August, 2016.
