A group of naval aviation personnel in red shirts are performing maintenance or recovery operations on what appears to be an F/A-18 Hornet or Super Hornet fighter jet on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. A yellow heavy-lift crane or tow vehicle (rated SW 2000, 20,000-32,000 lbs) is positioned to the left of the aircraft. The wet deck surface and crew attire suggest this is an active carrier deck operation.

WATERS SOUTH OF JAPAN (Aug. 29, 2016) Crash and Salvage team members tighten straps to secure the landing gear in the raised position with the aircraft nose down on a training jet during a phase-two evolution drill simulating an aircraft landing gear failure aboard the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). This put the training jet in a position similar to how a jet might look after a crash landing. Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
