U.S. Army Warrant Officers Tommy Perry and James Pressley, Det.1, Co. B, 2-238th General Support Aviation Battalion, 59th Aviation Troop Command, discuss route options while flying a newly acquired CH-47F Chinook helicopter, during the turn-in mission of one of the unit's last CH-47D Chinooks helicopters, North Carolina-South Carolina border, Aug.19, 2016. Call sign “Guard Copter 368” was one of the few CH-47D built as “true D-models,” at the end of the First Gulf War. 368 served with Det.1 for the last ten years, to include the 2009 and 2013 deployments to Afghanistan; during its service, “368” earned a reputation for reliability and sturdiness among the unit’s pilots, maintainers and crew-chiefs. This last mission included a brief stop at Fort Drum, NY, where one of the two crews received from the 10th Mountain Division a newer CH-47F, as a replacement for their retiring D-model.
