BANGOR, Wash. (Aug. 12. 2016) Cmdrs. Ryan Heilman (left) and Gene Severtson (right), commanding officers of USS Nevada (SSBN 733) Blue and Gold, ceremoniously cut the cake during the 30th Anniversary of the ship's commissioning. Commissioned on Aug. 16, 1986, Nevada was originally supposed to decommission at the 30-year mark, the service life of the Ohio-class SSBNs has since been extended to 42 years.
