Task Force Koa Moana: Solidifying “Ocean” Warrior

Lance Cpl. Nathan D. Lyons performs maintenance checks on a combat rubber raiding craft, July 27, 2016, on Motutapu Island, Tonga, during a mult-national, bilateral exercise, designed to increase interoperability and relations between U.S. and Tongan forces, as part of Task Force Koa Moana’s deployment in the Asia-Pacific region. The service members utilized CRRCs to operationalize USNS Sacagawea (T-AKE 2), conduct beach insertions and transport supplies and personnel from ship to shore. Lyons, from Peoria, Illinois, is a combat engineer and CRRC operator with Task Force Koa Moana and is originally assigned to Company B, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
