160727-N-WI365-074 TOKYO (July 27, 2016) - U.S. Pacific Command Commander, Adm. Harry Harris delivers the keynote address during the Rebuild Japan Initiative Foundation event in Tokyo. One of Harris’ key topics of discussion was the U.S.- Japan Alliance, and how partnership with other allied nations is important, now more than ever. Harris went on to say, “We must work together. Thankfully, Japan and many other like-minded nations have joined the counter-ISIL coalition. Together, we can, and will, eradicate this disease.” The RJIF’s goal is to bring together retired and active leaders from both U.S. and Japan, among other eminent retired officers that have had a lasting influence on the alliance. The event also allowed Adm. Harris to emphasize the importance and strategic value of the U.S.-Japan Alliance and how the security cooperation between two nations is a starting point for how the alliance can defend universal values at the global level.
