Lt. Col. Jeremiah Salame, the incoming commanding officer for 1st Bn., 3rd Marines, relieved Lt. Col. Jones, after Jones served four years as 1st Bn., 3rd Marines' commanding officer. The change of command ceremony represents a transfer of authority and responsibility and ensures that the unit and its Marines are never without official leadership, a continuation of trust, and also signifies an allegiance of Marines to their unit's commander.
