MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII - Col. Carl E. Cooper, the commanding officer for 3d Marine Regiment, calls the battalion to attention at the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment change of command ceremony held at Dewey Square aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii, July 22, 2016. Lt. Col. Jeremiah Salame, the incoming commanding officer for 1st Bn., 3rd Marines, relieved Lt. Col. Quintin Jones, the outgoing commanding officer for 1st Bn., 3rd Marines, after Jones served four years as 1st Bn., 3rd Marines' commanding officer. The change of command ceremony represents a transfer of authority and responsibility and ensures that the unit and its Marines are never without official leadership, a continuation of trust, and also signifies an allegiance of Marines to their unit's commander.
