U.S. Army Reserve Animal Care Specialists and Veterinary Food Inspection Specialists, 445th and 993rd Medical Detachment Veterinary Services, Independence, Mo., and Aurora, Colo., conduct veterinarian services on a calf at Patterson Ranch, Lockwood, Calif., during Combat Support Training Exercise 91-16-02, Fort Hunter Liggett, Calif., June 20, 2016. Calves are injected with Ivermax, an anti-parasitic, identification tagged and castrated per California law. Castration of the males is done to protect the herd because bulls that are not castrated can cause harm to themselves and other cattle in the herd. As the largest U.S. Army Reserve training exercise, CSTX 91-16-02 provides Soldiers with unique opportunities to sharpen their technical and tactical skills in combat-like conditions.
