PACIFIC OCEAN (June 14, 2016) Lt. Cmdr. Todd Hastings, right, the USS Carl Vinson's (CVN 70) first lieutenant, observes the raising and lowering of an anchor chain during a drop test on board the ship. Commander Naval Air Forces Board of Inspection and Survey Assist Team is on board Carl Vinson conducting phase IV of the validation and assessment of the ship in preparation for INSURV’s main inspection in August. The assist team will observe and evaluate the crew’s performance during various demonstration and events, assess the material condition of the ship, and provide recommendations for future preparations.
