SMITH, Hawaii (June 8, 2016) - Dr. George Kailiwai, U.S. Pacific Command Director of Resources and Assessment, speaks with Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, U.S. Department of Energy Deputy Secretary, while touring the Smart Power Infrastructure Demonstration for Energy Reliability and Security (SPIDER) facility on board Camp H. M. Smith, Hawaii. The facility integrates solar, diesel, and power from the Hawaiian electrical grid to provide reliable power for U. S. Pacific Command Headquarters. Uninterrupted power allows U.S. PACOM to support security and freedom of navigation, in cooperation with partner nations, throughout the Indo-Asia Pacific.
