Col. John Nipp, commander, 114th Digital Liaison Detachment, Mississippi National Guard provides his detachment with guidance during an after action brief as part of the Joint War Fighter Exercise 16-4 on Fort Bragg, N.C., April 11, 2016. DLDs are a new concept to the Army serving to provide a cooperative link to the host nation's defense forces in five war fighting functions: maneuver, intelligence, fires (field artillery), logistics, and air defense assets. A 'war fighter' is a multi-echelon exercise simulating realistic, complex scenarios in which army units must be prepared to operate. This training also provides an opportunity to practice distributed mission command as a Combined Joint Task Force Headquarters overseeing Army, Marine, Navy, Air Force and Special Operations Force elements supporting the XVIII Airborne Corps commander's number one priority of readiness.
