U.S. Army Lt. Col. James M. Zieba, staff judge advocate for Task Force Cyclone, met with Chief Judge Abdul Ghafar Sayem in Charikar, Parwan province, Afghanistan, Feb. 16. Part of the visit was to schedule legal training for provincial judges and prosecutors. The training is designed to improve knowledge of the existing Afghan legal system. "From the top all the way down the directive is to be cognizant of the culture and the people," said Zieba, a Carmel, Ind., native who is deployed with the Indiana National Guard 38th Infantry Division. Sayem spoke positively about the future of his province's legal system. "We are working as a team here. If we go according to the culture and the system of this country, we will succeed here."
