NEWPORT NEWS, Va., (April 8, 2016) -- Capt. Richard McCormack, commanding officer of Pre-Commissioning Unit Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), and Capt. John F. Meier cut the cake at a reception following a change of command in the ship’s hangar bay. Ford is the first of a new class of aircraft carriers currently under construction by Huntington Ingalls Newport News Shipbuilding.
