A military submarine has surfaced through Arctic or polar sea ice, with crew members visible on the hull and sail (conning tower) wearing red survival suits. The foreground shows broken and fractured sea ice with characteristic blue-tinted compression zones, indicating the submarine broke through from below. Atmospheric sea smoke or frost smoke is visible in the background, consistent with extremely cold air temperatures over relatively warmer open water.
