A young girl is happy to see The Lion of Kirkuk, portrayed by U.S. Army Spc. Brandon Smith, Mortar Platoon, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, but not quite enough to give him a hug during a humanitarian aide drop at the Emergency Response Unit compound in Kirkuk, Iraq, Jan. 18. Soldiers from 1-30 IR and members of the Iraqi Emergency Response Unit teamed up to distribute food and supplies to 250 families from Adallah, one of the poorest villages in the province of Kirkuk.
