Retired Lt. Col. George E. Hardy, a Tuskegee Airman, gives a speech during the “A Salute To A Living Legend” event at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., Feb. 11, 2016. In September of 1944, he was assigned to the famous 99th Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group at Ramitelli Air Base, Italy, where he would participate in 21 escort and strafing missions over Europe.
