Recruits of Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, waits for his turn to fight during the Pugil Sticks III event at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Dec. 29. Recruits are paired up against another recruit who is similar in height and weight so there aren’t any advantages during the match. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Charlie Company is scheduled to graduate Jan. 22.
