A Marine with 2nd Marine Logistics Group breaks the seal on his mask after entering the gas chamber at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Jan. 8. Marines, while exposed to chlorobenzylidene malononitrile, or CS gas, must conduct a series of exercises before breaking the seal on their mask followed by properly don and clearing it. The chamber is a routine exercise to ensure the durability of each Marines gear while exposed to chlorobenzylidene malononitrile, or CS gas, which is a bi-annual qualification requirement for Marines.
