SAN DIEGO (Dec. 15, 2015) The amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) returns to its homeport after a seven-month deployment. Essex is the flagship of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group and, with embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (15th MEU), operated in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
