One of the 20 malaria microscopy students, laboratory technician Rukia Shani of the National Reference Laboratory and Quality Assurance Training Center in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, takes notes during the in the opening ceremony introduction session Nov. 23, in the Ceemi building. U.S. Africa Command's Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Medical Research Unit-Kenya and their Kenyan partners, the Kenya Medical Research Institute, are conducting a medical engagement to provide a two week basic malaria microscopy training, Nov. 23 through Dec. 4, 2009, to medical laboratory technologists from Tanga Region, Tanzania. The U.S. President's Malaria Initiative-Tanzania is also facilitating the training.
