A middle-aged man with a shaved head and gray beard sits on a folding chair on the deck of a naval vessel, working on cables or rigging connected to a yellow underwater device. The yellow device bears a 'Navy Supply' label and appears to be an underwater glider or sonar instrument. The setting is an active ship deck with blue crane structures, equipment containers, and open ocean visible in the background.

BAHAMAS (Oct. 23, 2015) Mike Unzicker, a contractor with Phoenix International Incorporated, prepare a tow pinger locater 25 (TPL 25) for the upcoming salvage mission aboard USNS Apache (T-ATF 172). USNS Apache departed Norfolk, Va., Oct. 19, to begin searching for wreckage from the missing U.S. Flagged merchant vessel El Faro. The ship is equipped with several pieces of underwater search equipment, including a voyage data recorder locator, side-scan sonar and an underwater remote operated vehicle. The Navy's mission will be to first locate the ship and, if possible, to retrieve the voyage data recorder - commonly known as a black box.
