A C-17 from the 535th Airlift Squadron, 15th Airlift Wing is parked on the flightline of Tontouta International Airport, New Caledonia, while dolphins from the U.S. Navy Marine Mammals Program in San Diego are unloaded from the jet Nov. 9. The dolphins possess a unique sonar capability that is vital in mine detection operations and are currently supporting Lagoon MINEX 2009, which is a humanitarian project where U.S. Navy, French, Australian and New Zealand demolition crews will remove mines left over from WW II from the surrounding water of the area.
