South Carolina National Guard Soldier, Sgt. David Keyes, 1055th Transportation Company, prepares to drive his truckload of 1,500 sandbags from the Wateree Correctional Facility, to one of the numerous drop-off points throughout the state Oct. 3, 2015, in preparation of Hurricane Joaquin. Inmates filled the sandbags, which were distributed throughout South Carolina to prevent flooding in low-lying areas of Chester, Columbia, Greenville, Florence and Clinton. Soldiers from the South Carolina National Guard train throughout the year in preparation for these types of natural events and are always at the ready when the governor calls to assist in emergency response or disaster clean up.
