The 402nd Software Maintenance Group has been tasked by the C-5 System Program Office with updating the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex C-5 System Integration Lab with installation of a new Core Mission Computer and Color Weather Radar. The tasking is in support of an effort by Lockheed Martin under the direction of the SPO to develop upgrades to the CMC and CWR systems as part of a long-term program to extend the life of the Air Force C-5 fleet beyond 2040. The SIL houses a cockpit salvaged from a C-5 that crashed in 2006. The fully functional cockpit gives the 402nd SMXG the ability to test software developed by the unit in a real environment without tying up serviceable aircraft.
